With baby #2 on the way, there's a lot going on in our lives! I figured I'd start a blog, so those of you who are interested can see what we're up to these days!
For starters, Maddy is 2.5! She's quite the "big girl" these days! She LOVES to help around the house (especially with laundry, Joe's training her well, haha) and is a constant ball of energy! We've just signed her up for Tots Gymnastics and Toddler Basketball, through the local Y. I'm so excited for her to start! Both programs start the first week of May. We think she'll have a blast. She's such a smart girl (yes, I'm bragging. It's allowed, it's MY blog!) and she just amazes us. We're still debating preschool in the fall. I guess we'll see how it shakes out!
In other news, I'm officially 20 weeks pregnant today! Yay for half(ish) way! =) This has been a completely different experience than my pregnancy with Maddy. When I was pregnant with Maddy, I felt great, almost all the time. The only times I ever felt nauseous was if I was hungry. Then I would eat and feel better. This time around, I've been nauseous since week 6ish, and had full-on all-day sickness since about 11 weeks. Ugh. Makes it hard to find any motivation when I feel so yucky. Hopefully it will go away soon! I had 72 straight hours of feeling great this week. It was so nice. I was secretly hoping the throwing up was gone, but alas, no such luck! Oh well. I'll just enjoy every good day I get! We have our big ultrasound next week. As long as the baby cooperates, we will be finding out if it's a boy or a girl! So exciting! So many people keep telling us "I hope it's a boy," or, "Everyone hopes it's a boy." It's starting to bum me out a little bit. Personally, I don't care if it's a boy or a girl. I feel like we'll have the baby we're meant to have. If we had been given the choice, we probably would've "made" Maddy a boy, and look at what a great little girl we'd have missed out on! I can't imagine our lives without her, and I wouldn't trade her for any boy in the world! Whatever this baby is, I hope it's healthy!
When Maddy was born, I had an urgent but not emergent c-section. After an uneventful labor (I was at 8 cm), the nurse happened to notice that Maddy was Frank Breech (http://www.webmd.com/baby/healthtool-fetal-positions-slideshow) and since my water was already broken (it broke on it's own, at the start of labor) they couldn't turn her. They stopped my labor, and shortly after that our sweet little baby girl was born.
I don't have hard feelings about my c-section, but I'm hoping to avoid one this time. I will probably mention my VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) plans from time to time. I understand that people have many different feelings about labor, childbirth and c-sections, but I hope you all can understand that this is MY decision (supported fully by Joe and our families!) and I've already made my mind up. I'm sure I'll share more of my reasons for wanting a VBAC over the next 20-ish weeks, but I just want to throw this out there: I have done my research (starting the day after Maddy was born!) and I am fully aware of the pros/cons of having a VBAC. I'm also fully aware of the pros/cons of having a repeat c-section. It is my opinion, and also the opinion of my Dr., that a VBAC is the better choice for me.
Well, there's the quick update. More to follow!
